IMT, a Mission Essential company, delivers time-critical intelligence to the Warfighter
In August 2016, Mission Essential acquired Information Management Technology (IMT), LLC, a leading provider of Information Management system engineering, SATCOM engineering, software development, information assurance, and system sustainment. IMT is the lead integrator for the Integrated Broadcast Service (IBS) enterprise.
IBS is the worldwide Department of Defense (DoD) standard network for transmitting time-sensitive tactical and strategic intelligence and targeting data to all echelons of Joint Service and Collaborating Nation operational users in near real time. During the first Gulf War, the Warfighter suffered from the lack of an integrated broadcast architecture and a single cohesive service that resulted in little ability for users to influence the collection and dissemination process. Directed by Congressional mandate, IBS was directed to integrate the several existing stove piped intelligence and information dissemination systems – TRIXS (Army), TDDS (Navy), and TIBS (Air Force) into a single system of broadcasts that allowed for the receipt of data via a family of certified tactical terminals.
Today, IBS continues to disseminate time-critical threat avoidance, targeting, maneuvers, blue force tracking, force protection, target tracking, combat search and rescue, theater missile defense warning, and other vital data to Joint and Five Eye Warfighters on a 24/7/365 basis. Its users include U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, Coast Guard, Allied ships, airborne tactical reconnaissance platforms, Army ground units, cryptologic centers, and non-traditional units such as the Department of State (DoS) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
IBS transmits reporting across two components: IBS Network Services (IBS-NS) which disseminates reports via SIPRNet, JWICS, and NSANet; and the IBS Common Interactive Broadcast (CIB) which disseminates reports via Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) SATCOM. The CIB facilitates Joint/FVEY, multi-sensor, multi-source intelligence exploitation of the battlefield and provides a key interactive link between producer and consumer, supporting time-critical targeting and real-time intelligence to the shooter. Timeliness in report transmission is prioritized with Imminent Threat data delivered in as little as 5 seconds.
In their role of Lead System Integrator of a complex system of systems, IMT ensures that the joint service and five eye warfighters continue to produce and consume intelligence products effectively on this ubiquitous intelligence network. IMT’s IBS technical support includes software development, software modernization, systems integration, systems engineering, field support, and Satellite Communications (SATCOM) engineering. IMT has developed enabling techniques and tools for the UHF SATCOM Common Interactive Broadcast (CIB), to include the CIB Planning Tool (CIB-PT), the Integrated Waveform (IW) Planning Tool (IW PT), Universal CIB Test Set (UCTS) and Downlink Monitoring Element (DME).
